Cons: There is so much work. In 10 weeks he assigned five essays. Also he grades very hard on the essays, and he expects so much. The class is literally based off of how well you do on his essays.
Really challenges you to think.
No homework assignments (besides essays)
Cons: A FREAKING BUTTLOAD OF WORK.
LOTS OF READING.
okay, soooo hackelton. Where do I start? He is a weird but funny teacher - sometimes he can be quite vulgar/profane if some of you get offended by it. Personally, I thought it was entertaining. Anyways, sometimes he takes attendance, but very rarely. He assigned a crap load of reading! so make sure you stay on top of it. However, you can get away with just reading online summaries like i did because I fell behind the first week since I enrolled after week 1. He gives two out of class essays worth 40 points and two in class essays for 20 points. The out of class essays take A LOT OF WORK! WARNING, THEY ARE A LOT OF WORK! I did procrastinate, but I put in around a solid 20 hours straight worth of work for each of those essays, and I had to get a friend to help me with them. I ended up with a B- , but that easily could have been a B if I received credit for the first quiz and didn't turn in my first essay late. On the final I got a 35/40. I would only recommend him if you are ready for a lot of work. Engineers, don't take this teacher because you probably have other classes you need to focus more on, its too demanding for an english class. Grade Received: B- (barely)

Books are very interesting
Class is fun
Cons: No curve
One of the best teachers I've ever had, and to have him for English was even better. I highly recommend him over any other English teacher so take him when you can even if it is at a bad time.
Quizzes are easy even if you dont read the material
Cons: Lots of reading
grades tough on essays
2 in class essays and 2 out of class essays and a final which is revising one of your in class essays with more research. Hilarious guy and tells it like it is. You read 2 books and have quizzes that are on the reading that he goes over the day before. Not an easy A class but it was fun.
Cons: Long readings, Pop quizzes if class seems to have not read
Mr. Hackelton is a very knowledgeable professor that makes English 105 enjoyable. The readings that are given sometimes are long , but the reading material is interesting. During the class you have a total of five essays. Three out-of-class and two in-class essays. All the assignments a lot of flexibility and freedom when it comes to what you want to write about. I would highly recommend this instructor.
Cons: weird point scale with decimals and does not round up.
Hackelton is a good English professor because he is funny which means he keeps your attention. Essay requirements are easy to follow. Reading all the books within the timespan of the ten week quarter is tough though. remember to take notes on the texts either in your book or on paper. It will help you a lot when you take reading quizzes and writing your essays. St. Mary's Guide is a text book about writing essays. I never used mine but if you're confused about anything, you'll find an answer quicker rather than looking through the Internet.
