By Lorena Roberts on January 16, 2019

If you haven’t heard of Phi Kappa Phi, you’ve probably been living under a rock. As the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society, most people aim to become part of this prestigious organization. According to a recent press release, Phi Kappa Phi is now accepting applications for the 2019 award programs. These include fellowships, study abroad grants, literacy grants, and love of learning awards. Whether you’re trying to fund your graduate studies, professional development, studying abroad, or hosting a literacy initiative, Phi Kappa Phi might have the resources to push you over the threshold of success.

“Phi Kappa Phi encourages the ‘love of learning’ and supports scholarly, interdisciplinary efforts through direct support and recognition of academic excellence,” said Scott Willard, a 2018 award recipient. “This recognition and support opens doors for members of the Society and encourages continued scholarship.”

Every year, Phi Kappa Phi awards almost $1 million to over 350 deserving individuals. If you’re interested in being an award winner along next to Scott, there are a number of programs currently accepting applications:

Fellowships: Recently, Phi Kappa Phi has expanded its Fellowship Program from a total amount of $345,000 each year to $615,000. With the arrival of 2019, there are now 50 fellowships of $8500 each, 6 fellowships at $20,000 each, and two fellowships at $35,000 each that will be available to members entering their first year of graduate study. The deadline to apply varies by chapter, so contact your local chapter for deadline information.

Study Abroad Grants: There are 75 grants available, each worth $1000, that will be awarded to both members and non-members studying abroad. The deadline to apply is March 15.

Literacy Grants: For chapters and individuals seeking funding for literacy initiatives, there are grants of up to 2,500 available. The deadline to apply is April 1.

Love of Learning Awards: There are 200 awards available in this category, each priced at $500. These help fund post-baccalaureate studies and professional development for active members. The deadline to apply is June 30.
